Jess Wathen

My journey as a painter began later in life, with my background primarily in graphite and charcoal. Being self-taught, I believe that my strong foundation in drawing helped me adapt to painting quickly. For me, art has always been a form of therapy, but it also feels like an unending itch that can only be scratched through creation. It wasn't until a publishing company offered me an opportunity in 2015 that I began to seriously pursue an art career, specifically focusing on painting wildlife.

In my work, my goal is to create powerful and emotive images. I prioritize evoking feelings in the viewer over telling a specific story. I find it fascinating how a single color or brushstroke can greatly impact the mood of the piece and the viewer. The process of discovering this balance between composition and emotion captivates me and drives my ambition as an artist.
